Electrify Queenstown is brought to you by Destination Queenstown and supported by Queenstown Chamber of Commerce

Destination Queenstown is the local Regional Tourism Organisation responsible for destination marketing and management.

Queenstown is on a journey to achieve regenerative tourism by 2030, with a carbon zero visitor economy. Electrify Queenstown helps encourage local homes and businesses to transition to electrification and renewable energy.

Queenstown Business Chamber of Commerce supports Electrify Queenstown because it makes sound business sense. Electrification boosts businesses’ bottom line and makes them more resilient, as well as helping decarbonise.

Sustainability at Electrify Queenstown

At Electrify Queenstown, sustainability isn’t just a checkbox—it’s at the core of everything we do. We’re committed to minimising our environmental impact and leading the way in sustainable event production through innovative, practical solutions. Proud to be a waste-free event, we champion sustainable practices and responsible travel at every step, setting a new standard for how large-scale events can be produced with minimal environmental impact.

Here’s how you can play your part:

  • Bring a reusable water bottle – Refill stations will be available.
  • Bring a reusable coffee cup to the Queenstown Events Centre – Enjoy free coffee as a reward! If you forget, you can borrow one through the Chunky Cup loan system—just bring a $10 note as a refundable deposit. No single-use cups will be available, so a reusable cup is required for beverages. More information about Chunky can be found here Please note: Skyline will provide reusable crockery.
  • Be responsible for your waste – The only onsite bins will be for food waste, collected for composting (Skyline) or livestock feed (Queenstown Events Centre).
  • Responsible travel - Arrive and depart sustainably. View the How to Get to Electrify Queenstown section in the FAQ for ideas on how to minimise the impact of your trip. If you’re visiting Queenstown for the event here are some low impact places to stay, and here are some other ways you can have a positive impact during your stay.
  • Can’t make it? Let us know! Accurate attendee numbers help reduce waste. Please cancel your ticket via Humanitix, following these instructions.

Creating a sustainable event requires collaboration. We’re proud to work with partners and venues who share our commitment to reducing environmental impact and driving positive change. From energy-efficient venues to waste-conscious event production, here’s how our partners are helping make Electrify Queenstown as sustainable as possible.

Innovative Event Production
Our production partner, Tom Tom Productions, is committed to a more sustainable future while delivering world-class events. For Electrify Queenstown, they are:

  • Eliminating unnecessary materials like gaffer tape
  • Optimising energy use
  • Sourcing equipment locally to reduce transport emissions

Skyline Queenstown
Skyline Queenstown is continuously exploring more ways to decarbonise their on-site operations through energy, resource and waste minimisation. At Electrify Queenstown, you can expect:

A comprehensive approach to reducing waste, including:

  • Responsible sourcing and waste diversion strategies.
  • 100% food waste diversion from landfill through Skyline’s composting programme, in collaboration with Waste to Wilderness.
  • No single-use catering items.
  • A dedication to achieving zero waste to landfill by 2030.

Support for Renewable Energy:

Skyline Queenstown proudly supports 100% renewable electricity generation by purchasing Meridian’s Certified Renewable Energy product. This ensures that the electricity they draw from the grid in New Zealand is matched on an annual basis by an equivalent amount from Meridian’s hydro stations or wind farms, both of which are independently verified as producing 100% renewable electricity.

Queenstown Events Centre
The Electrify Queenstown team is implementing the following sustainable practices at the Queenstown Event Centre.

  • Requiring exhibitors to use digital materials instead of printed leaflets.
  • Reusing banners and signage from previous events or designing them for multi-use.
  • Using reusable plates, cups, and cutlery while working closely with caterers to reduce waste.

Our Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability is an ongoing journey, and we’re always looking for new ways to push boundaries and set a positive example. By making conscious choices, we’re creating an event that champions progress, innovation, and the natural beauty of Queenstown.

Join us in making Electrify Queenstown a model for sustainable events. Small actions create big change—together, we can make a difference!
